We are looking for

Junior Researcher (f/m/d)

(full-time -  40 hours per week)

for our Welfare Research Program, starting 1 August 2026. The Welfare Research Program at ISDC focuses on the intersection between humanitarian emergencies, fragility, and conflict on one hand and economic and social well-being on the other. We expand the state of the art by designing and conducting experimental and quasi-experimental studies to understand how households live and cope with shocks. This informs our understanding of how humanitarian and development programs can help alleviate vulnerable households from poverty and strengthen their resilience and food and nutritional security. The Junior Researcher will primarily contribute to a project measuring resilience impacts of a multi-sectoral humanitarian program in Syria.

Your responsibilities

  • Supporting the coordination of quantitative micro-level survey data collection with several implementing partners;
  • Cleaning, matching, and analyzing quantitative micro-level data;
  • Conducting literature review; and
  • Contributing to the writing of  reports and papers.

Qualificatons and key competencies

  • An excellent Master’s degree in economics or social sciences;
  • Very strong skills in statistical analysis and data management in R; 
  • Experience in developing and managing surveys using ODK; 
  • Experience in working with large quantitative micro-level data; 
  • Experience working in and on fragile and conflict-affected settings (desirable, but not necessary); and
  • Excellent written and oral English-language skills (additional knowledge of Arabic and German is desirable, but not necessary).
